The Shanghai Quartet has also got involved in a variety of film and TV performances including Woody Allen’s film Melinda and Melinda, and PBS drama Great Performances. They were even resident artists of the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra in its 2021-2022 season. In addition, the Shanghai Quartet maintains a close and long-term partnership with the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra and China NCPA Orchestra. In recent years, the Shanghai Quartet has given performances at almost all of the world’s top music galleries including the Carnegie Recital Hall, Lincoln Center, Metropolitan Museum of Art, Suntory Hall, Tokyo, Philharmonie de Paris, Warsaw Palace, Budapest Spring Music Festival, Pablo Casals Festival, NCPA May Festival, etc. Later, the members went to the United States for further studies. In 1983, the Shanghai Quartet was established at the Shanghai Conservatory of Music. Over the past 40 years, the Shanghai Quartet has been one of the most important chamber ensembles in the world.
He participated in the filming of the Academy Award-nominated documentary Small Wonders, film Music of the Heart, etc., as well as the film Melinda and Melinda together with the Shanghai Quartet. He has also collaborated with WU Man in recording SHENG Zongliang’s all works for pipa and cello.

Nicholas Tzavaras has made more than 25 records, covering the complete series of Beethoven String Quartets. He also serves as a guest principal cello of the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra, Director of the Stringed Instruments Department, Tianjin Juilliard School, and a resident teacher of cello and chamber music. He has attended many music festivals including the Bulevade Festival at Prades, France, La Jolla Music Festival, Melbourne Music Festival, Marlboro Music Festival, etc. Since 2000, he has been a cello performer at the internationally renowned Shanghai Quartet. The cellist Nicholas Tzavaras, born in East Harlem, New York, began to learn the violin with his mother Roberta Guaspari, a famous music education, at the age of two and started studying the cello at eight. In the autumn of 2020, LI Weigang joined the Tianjin Juilliard School as a resident professor of violin and Director of the Chamber Music Department. He appeared in the documentary From Mao to Mozart: Isaac Stern in China, which won the Academy Award in 1980, and Woody Allen’s film Melinda and Melinda. He has been to 35 countries, held about 3,000 concerts and released over 30 albums. He also cooperated with the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra, China Philharmonic Orchestra, BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, etc. LI Weigang worked with the BBC Symphony Orchestra in giving a performance publicly at the age of 17. Since 2009, he has been a guest concertmaster of the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra, and he is also a visiting professor at the Shanghai Conservatory of Music and the Central Conservatory of Music. In 1983, he founded the world-renowned Shanghai Quartet with his three schoolmates at the Shanghai Conservatory of Music. LI Weigang was born into a musical family in Shanghai.
